少女憶梅在母親病故後，遵母遺命赴台北投奔朱牧教授，汪玲迅速就愛上了朱牧的家庭教師楊群，但劉維斌也在追求汪玲，卻因此常被父親責打。使羅太太對汪玲充滿敵意。有幾次甚至精神並發作，幾乎掐死她。憶梅出走回高雄楊群與朱牧教授將汪玲找回，在楊群的逼問下，朱牧終於攤牌。原來汪玲的確是朱牧的女兒。她的母親江繡琳與傅公子相遇於貴州湄潭，結婚後生下皓皓和憶梅。江繡林和羅教授都分別來台灣。江繡林在臨死前囑女兒去投奔羅教授，未料引起一場悲劇。江繡琳收養的雅築在罪疚及崩潰下，終於在院中菟絲花樹旁上吊自殺
